We should move into 21st century of transportation
Comments 0 | Recommend 0As I spent another $50 at the gas pump this morning, I wondered yet again why Alamance County doesn't do something to help commuters who travel Highway 54 between Burlington/Graham and Chapel Hill/Durham. The counties around us such as Guilford, Orange and Wake have public transportation that gives commuters an alternative to driving every day.
The Triangle Transit Authority even comes as far as Hillsborough to pick up riders, but poor little Alamance County is right in the middle again - not a part of either the Triad or the Triangle.
It seems to me that there are enough commuters who would probably be willing to pay a reasonable fee to have some sort of public transportation. There is a service already in place for those who need transportation for medical services, so how difficult would it be to expand that to regular commuters?
Perhaps the Times-News could look into this and see if there is some way we could stop being the outcast here and move into the 21st century of transportation.
