Franco's clutch hit completes Royals' comeback victory

DANVILLE, Va. -- Angel Franco's one-out single in the top of the ninth inning scored Yeldrys Molina with the winning run as the Burlington Royals posted a 7-6 comeback victory against the Danville Braves in Appalachian League baseball Thursday night.

It marks the first back-to-back victories for the Royals this season.

Burlington trailed 6-2 going into the seventh inning and tacked on three runs to trim the margin by a run. The Royals (3-13) then added a run in the eighth to knot the game at 6-6.

Franco, Julio Aparicio and Miguel Moctezuma supplied two hits each for Burlington. Moctezuma had a home run for the Royals, while Molina chipped in a triple.

Barry Bowden picked up the victory for Burlington, throwing 2 2/3 innings in relief, allowing no runs on one hit. Bowden struck out four batters. Starter Victor Jorge pitched five innings, giving up five runs on four hits.

Mathew Kennelly went 2-for-3 with a home run and double for the Braves (12-5), with teammate Gerardo Rodriguez contributing a home run.

Matthew Small took the loss for Danville, pitching 2 1/3 innings in relief, giving up two runs on four hits.
